Cactus & Tropicals is proud to be an independent, locally owned and operated business providing a wide variety of horticultural services to northern Utah since 1975.
Who We Are
We have grown from humble beginnings in 1975 to employ over 150 people today who create and maintain living art across the state of Utah.
We are botanists and florists, designers and creatives. Whether we are building arrangements and caring for plants or delivering flowers and installing fountains - we all believe in creating a beautiful space.

Continuing our legacy as an independently owned and operated business, Karin & Scott Pynes bought Cactus & Tropicals in 2002.
They were long time customers, love nature and enjoy gardening. Working together at a local business with a team that cared about equity, inclusion and making a positive impact on the community seemed like the perfect fit for the next chapter of their lives. They have two children, a cat and enjoy skiing, hiking, and spending their days exploring all the possibilities for their favorite store – Cactus & Tropicals.
our roots go deep
In the beginning, our business grew from the love of cacti paired with a determination to create a workplace of equality and pride.
Founder Lorraine Miller started out hauling cacti in her Volkswagen bus from California to Salt Lake, soon after, a downtown storefront was opened, establishing Cactus & Tropicals, formerly known as ‘Cactus Growers of Utah’, in 1975,
As we grew so did our need for space. In 1978, Lorraine built a large greenhouse in Salt Lake City, a place we still call home today.
In 2006 our second location sprouted in Draper, Utah. We have added floral and event services, plant maintenance programs and seasonal outdoor nurseries, thanks to our loyal customers and the determination of our committed teams.
